I've decided to document the transformation of our "project camper".  I want this to mainly be a photo journey from day one and to get feedback on ideas for the plans I have. The journey began with daily searches on Craigslist, The Samba, and eBay for a VW camper. I preferred the 80-91 year vanagon Westfalia vanagon style over the earlier bus type and newer Eurovan type. Eventually a Craigslist posting in the San Jose area was listed for a 1981 air-cooled Camper at a great price so we flew down to pick it up virtually sight un-seen. With all the engine air leaks I believe it was putting out approx half of the already low 67 stock horsepower which made for some very slow hill climbing. It eventually made it back to Portland and was dropped off at the mechanic to get a pretty detailed list of what was needed to get running properly. Here are the original Craistlist pictures which prompted us to fly down. The main thing was that it was a California vehicle with minimal rust, it has the full camper with pop-top canvas roof, 4 spd manual transmission
